Notre Dame’s
science department firmly believes that all students should be provided with a
positive educational environment with optimum opportunities for success. Science courses should open the door to a
lifetime of understanding. Students need
to understand and appreciate their role as stewards of their environment. Experimentation should be an integral part of
any science course. It allows the
students to develop some sort of “ownership” over their work. Ownership is a vehicle which will allow the
student to become actively involved in the process of learning. An important aim of the science department is
to encourage students to believe in the importance of understanding rather than
simple memorizing.
